Linux: Documented Like None Other

  • Dec. 17th, 2007 at 12:42 PM
work
So here I am creating a template installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 server for use in VMware Infrastructure. I decided to check and see what Red Hat recommends as the default sizes for various filesystems such as /, /var, /usr, and so forth. Their documentation on this subject is amazingly brief. (At the time of this writing, the section is entirely empty.)

Thanks, guys. And don't even get me started on the whole installation number thing. I miss you, FreeBSD.

As I understand the Red Hat EULA, it only requires you to pay for
support in accord with the number of machines you run it on. That
doesn't violate the GPL, it just determines how much you have to pay
for support. You can still redistribute the free software, etc.

I believe it also explicitly says that you can use the GPL-covered
programs in any way that the GPL permits.

This is what I remember from after I read that license. It takes
time to do that, and I'd rather not study it again.
